The Best Time to Visit Rajasthan (Month by Month, From People Who Drive It)

A month-by-month guide to Rajasthan's weather, crowds and prices from a Udaipur tour operator — including the two underrated months most travellers skip.
The short answer
October to March is the correct answer for a first trip. Days sit between 22°C and 30°C, the light is clean, and every fort is comfortable to walk.
But we drive these roads all year, and two months outside that window beat parts of it: September, when the monsoon has just filled the lakes and the Aravallis are green, and early April, when crowds collapse and hotel rates fall by 40% before the real heat lands.
October and November — the peak
Perfect weather, and everyone knows it. Diwali pushes domestic travel to a peak; Pushkar Camel Fair fills every room within 100 km of Ajmer for a week. Book hotels 60 days out or accept second choices.
December and January — cold mornings, best light
Mount Abu can touch 2°C at dawn and the desert near Jaisalmer drops to 5°C. Photographers get the year's clearest air. Carry an actual jacket; the 'it's a desert' assumption catches people out every winter.
April to June — the honest warning
Jaisalmer and Bikaner pass 45°C. It is survivable with an early-start, mid-day-indoors, late-evening rhythm and a properly cooled vehicle, but nobody enjoys Chittorgarh at 2 pm in May. If you must travel then, stay in the lakes and hills — Udaipur and Mount Abu are several degrees kinder.
July to September — our quiet favourite
The monsoon is light in Rajasthan and it transforms Udaipur, Kumbhalgarh and Mount Abu. Waterfalls run at Sajjangarh, Kumbhalgarh's hills go emerald, and rates are at their lowest. The trade-off is haze and occasional slow ghat driving.
